Student Voice: Life beyond the Classroom

Student Voice: Life beyond the Classroom

This week we sat down with one of our New Joiner's in Year 12, Jinwoo, who is part of the Brentford FC for Under 19's. We caught up with Jinwoo about his experience at the College so far, his clear ambition beyond the classroom and how the College is helping to support him in achieving his goals.

Here is what he had to say:

What are you enjoying most about the College so far?

I really enjoy the small class sizes. I find that it is really easy to build up a relationship with all my teachers individually and I feel very comfortable asking them for help if there are any topics that I am struggling with.

How did it feel when you were signed for by your team? What position do you play?

I am currently part of the Brentford FC for Under 19’s. I play in the Right Back position - otherwise known as a defensive spot.

I had a trial which was very competitive so I was very (pleasantly) surprised to make it to the team. It is a lot of hard work as I have at least 4 training sessions a week.

How is the College helping you to follow your dreams of becoming a footballer?

The timetable fits really well for me. The college managed to work around my schedule and they have even set up individual lessons for those times where I cannot attend the originally scheduled lessons due to my football training.

We are also doing tests every two weeks which really helps keep me on track. Even though it can be difficult to manage my time with such an intensive training schedule, I feel as though the learning programme here is really challenging me and getting the best out of me.

I am really grateful for the efforts that the staff have gone to facilitate my learning so far and it is great to be able to be confident enough to know that the College will be able to work around any football commitments that I have in the future.
