The Student Council have taken on a new charitable initiative. Concerned about the plight of homeless people in the cold Winter months, they will be taking part in an initiative run by Crisis. Crisis are focused on dealing with both homelessness and its causes. They offer a range of services for those who are homeless and vulnerably housed including night shelters, day centres and an advice service. At the day centres, homeless clients are helped to improve their skills, beat addiction and apply for jobs so they can get back on their feet and live independent lives in the long term.
Crisis run an annual “Crisis at Christmas” initiative, where homeless people are invited to a free Christmas dinner so they can enjoy fun and friendship at what could otherwise be a difficult time. As part of this, Crisis have been asking for people to fill in a slip giving a warm message, and these will be given to those attending the dinner.
Thanks to the Student Council, every student and staff member in the College have filled in a slip, meaning that 100 homeless people will be given a message of friendship this Christmas and will know that those of us who are lucky enough to be securely housed are thinking of them. We look forward to following the School Council on more of their initiatives throughout the Christmas period.
