A Fresh Start in Year 9

Starting a new school can feel both exciting and a little daunting, but joining in Year 9 offers a valuable opportunity for a fresh start. At this stage, many students are new, creating the perfect environment to build friendships and settle in with confidence.

At Ealing Independent College (EIC), we provide a small, friendly, and supportive community where every student can thrive—both academically and personally. Our inclusive approach ensures that each student feels understood, supported, and able to reach their full potential.

Our teachers take the time to understand every individual’s strengths and needs, adapting their approach to provide the right support in the classroom. With kind, approachable staff and a welcoming atmosphere, students feel comfortable asking questions, building confidence, and engaging fully in their learning.

We welcome students of all abilities. Our only expectation is that they are willing to work hard, try their best, and are able to access our GCSE and A Level curriculum.

Why Join in Year 9?

Year 9 is a key transition point, marking the beginning of preparation for GCSE studies. At EIC, we strongly encourage students to join at this stage, as it provides a valuable pre-GCSE year to build confidence, strengthen knowledge, and develop essential study skills.

We take a flexible and personalised approach to learning. Students can choose a pathway that suits their strengths and interests, whether that means focusing on core subjects or exploring a broader curriculum. We understand that one size does not fit all, and our approach reflects this.

For students who find academic work more challenging, there is also the option to study a smaller number of GCSEs, allowing them to focus on key subjects and achieve success at their own pace.

A Welcoming and Supportive Environment

The small and friendly nature of the College creates an environment in which all students can flourish. There is a genuine sense of calm throughout the College, both in classrooms and corridors, and relationships between staff and students are strong and respectful.

Students join us from a wide range of educational backgrounds. Many who have previously struggled in larger or more traditional settings find that our relaxed yet purposeful atmosphere helps them settle and succeed. For example, students on the autism spectrum or those with ADHD often benefit from our structured but supportive environment. We have also welcomed students who have previously found it difficult to attend school, helping them to re-engage with education and rebuild confidence.

Students at EIC are tolerant, respectful, and supportive of one another. It is easy to find a quiet space during breaks for reflection, and students are also given the independence to leave the premises at break and lunchtime if they wish.

Learning at EIC

Students at EIC are supported to learn in a way that suits them best. With a maximum of twelve students per class—often fewer—teachers are able to build strong relationships and provide individual attention.

Lessons are designed to be engaging and interactive, and students are encouraged to learn at their own pace. To support this, lesson notes are uploaded to Google Classroom before each session, allowing students to focus on understanding rather than simply copying information. Teachers are always available to revisit topics and provide additional support where needed.

Extracurricular activities are encouraged but never compulsory, giving students the freedom to explore their interests without pressure.

What Makes Ealing Independent College Special?

At EIC, education is about more than academic success—it’s about creating a space where students feel valued, understood, and inspired.

With no dress code, students can express themselves comfortably. Small class sizes foster strong relationships, and our excellent pastoral care ensures every student’s wellbeing is prioritised.

We maintain open communication with both students and parents, ensuring everyone feels informed and involved. Students progress at their own pace while maintaining high standards, and our strong GCSE and A Level results open doors to leading universities in the UK and worldwide.
