When you come through the doors of EIC, you will feel the difference straight away.
We provide a calm and focused environment where students are able to concentrate on their learning without unnecessary distractions. Our school is quiet, with no bells and with students moving around the corridors in an orderly manner. As a shouting-free school, our students no longer have to feel the “fight or flight” response which many felt during their time in large state schools.
We believe that gentle encouragement and co-operative target-setting is the best way to help young people to achieve their potential rather than endless detentions and reprimands. As a school with no uniform and where students are given the freedom to go out or stay in college at lunchtime, many stressful trigger points such as clothing and buddy lunch halls are avoided. Of course, at parental request, student freedom to go out at lunchtime can be restricted, for example for students where there are concerns around road safety. Students who have difficulties with punctuality and attendance due to their neurodivergence are given personalised targets to improve these areas rather than being sanctioned.
Before offering a place, we rigorously assess whether a student will fit into our community, enabling us to create an environment where everyone can thrive without feeling fearful or intimidated.
