The College Pastoral Care System exists to ensure that all students have an easily accessible support network which enables and encourages them towards success.
The individual student is at the heart of everything we do at EIC. Students come to us from a variety of backgrounds, and with diverse experiences of education. Some may be high flyers who have always done well and want to be challenged by our expert teachers, others may be students with special educational needs who are seeking a warm and calm environment. Either way, students at the College are encouraged not only to succeed academically, but also to develop themselves outside of the classroom, in their own time and at their own pace.
In order for students to mature into young citizens who are ready to live life to the full, they need an educational environment that provides equal amounts of nurture and challenge. At College, they can make decisions in a safe environment. Our GCSE students are able to wear casual clothes and go out at lunchtime. Our A level students have even greater freedom, and are only required to be in College from their first lesson of the day to the last. This means that they can learn to plan their time wisely, with the support of their tutor – a key member of staff who ensures that the triangle of communication (parent-student-staff) is firmly in place and regularly updated.
At EIC, all students are encouraged to develop their skills as leaders. Students are encouraged to lead assemblies, try new extra-curricular activities and even to set up their own clubs and societies, all within our supportive environment where our ethos of gentle encouragement means that even the most shy students often feel comfortable enough to give things a go.
Students meet with their Personal Tutors every day and can share any worries and concerns. The Vice Principal also has an open door policy and any student can drop in for a chat if something is worrying them, whilst the Student Liaison Officer is also available to support.
As an additional layer of pastoral support, we have a Peer Mentoring system. All students in Years 9-11 will be allocated to a sixth form student who has volunteered to take on this role.
