What Is an External Candidate?
An external or private candidate is someone who studies outside a traditional school but registers to sit formal exams at an approved exam centre. Ealing Independent College welcomes students who want to register for GCSE, IGCSE, or A Level exams without being enrolled full-time.
Available Subjects
Ealing Independent College offers a wide range of GCSE and A Level subjects for external candidates, including:
GCSE / IGCSE: English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Business Studies, Sociology, History, Geography, Computer Science, French, Spanish, and more.
A Level: Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Business Studies, Psychology, English Literature, History, Sociology, and others.
For candidates who need to complete the GCSE English Language spoken endorsement, arrangements can be made through our external exams team.
Exam Sessions and Deadlines
Summer exams (May–June) – The main examination period for most subjects. Registration for Summer 2026 is now open, with a deadline of 9 February 2026.
It’s essential to register early to secure your place and avoid late entry fees.
Mock Exams for External Candidates
Ealing Independent College also runs optional mock exam sessions to help you prepare effectively. These take place under real exam conditions, giving you valuable experience before the official exams.
- December mocks: Receive full feedback, marks, and an optional predicted grade for UCAS applications.
- Easter mocks: A final opportunity to assess progress before the summer exams.
You can book either one or both sessions depending on your needs — many students choose both for the most accurate feedback and confidence boost.
Exam Fees
