As Head of Teaching and Learning, Head of Science, and Spanish teacher at Ealing Independent College, I’ve had the privilege of playing a key role in shaping students’ academic development. My educational journey began with a Biology degree at the University of Valencia in Spain. I later specialised in Applied Biology at Bonn Rhein Sieg University in Germany, before moving to Glasgow to take part in a research programme at the University of Strathclyde. Eventually, I returned to Valencia to complete a Master’s Degree in Education.
Before joining Ealing Independent College, I held a number of teaching positions across Spain and the UK, taking on roles such as A Level Biology Coordinator and Coordinator for the Most Able Students Programme within the Science department. These roles allowed me to support high-achieving students with unique and ambitious projects. A particularly proud moment for me was when three of my students won the inaugural BioMedia Meltdown Competition Award, hosted by The Linnean Society of London, the world’s oldest surviving biological society. Supporting students in achieving their full potential has always been at the heart of what I do.
What truly sets Ealing Independent College apart is its nurturing and inclusive atmosphere. I deeply value the ethos of the College, where students are empowered to take ownership of their learning. Our small class sizes make this possible, allowing for tailored support, active participation, and meaningful dialogue. There is a genuine respect between staff and students, and this mutual regard creates an environment where everyone feels valued and heard. It’s a unique place, and you can sense the calm, welcoming vibe as soon as you step through the doors. It’s more than just a school; it’s a community.
Alongside my main responsibilities, I prepare students for the British Biology Olympiads and lead the College’s Biomedical Society. This group allows students to explore the latest advancements in science and medicine while providing a collaborative space for like-minded individuals with shared academic and career goals. I also work closely with a representative from the student council on Teaching and Learning initiatives. This partnership has been incredibly enriching; together, we trial new strategies to continually improve the quality of teaching and learning across the College. It’s inspiring to see students contributing to the evolution of their own educational experience.
