Cambridge and New York universities are just two institutions I have been fortunate enough to have studied at, encountering inspirational professors prompting my lifelong passion for teaching.
I completed my teacher training many years ago and have since taught in a wide range of settings including independent day and boarding schools, state Further and Higher education and leading London independent sixth form colleges.
I have been Head of English at EIC for over eight years and have seen many positive changes during that time, not least our growing numbers and our increasingly diverse and inclusive community. The small classes are a dream for any teacher in that they can focus on the individual and even tailor lessons to each student’s needs. That said, the college is large enough for every individual to find friendship groups and engage in the social aspect of being a student.
EIC is one of the friendliest teaching environments I have ever worked in whereby staff genuinely care for students, provide a high standard of academic instruction, excellent pastoral care and careers guidance second to none.
I have been delighted to see students improve exponentially in English (sometimes an increase of four or five grades at GCSE for example) from the level at which they joined us. It is an absolute pleasure when students frequently return to the college to say hello and reminisce on their days with us.
