French trip to Hen Corner Bakery

Written by one of our year 9 Students

We were greeted warmly by the owner of Hen Corner and she delighted us with her famous cinnamon rolls. After indulging in her mouth-watering baked goods, we set to make our own. We were shown how to craft beautiful buttery croissants and before we knew it, golden brown swirls of goodness were leaving the oven. Later, we were given a recipe in french instructing us on how to make the french cake : Galette de Rois.

Normally it is a dessert consisting of almond butter encrusted with pastry and a hidden charm within, However, due to allergies our Galettes were made with frangipane and apples. Nevertheless, both of our Galettes left the oven in a stunning state with fragrant smells intoxicating the kitchen. Everyone was mesmerised by this wonderful pastry. We courageously held our hunger and brought it to school to share it out among some students and teachers! The Galettes were instantly finished and we were left with smiling faces and full stomachs!
