Biology Field Trip

03 Nov 2014

This year our A2 biologists worked hard during their three-day Biology field trip (October 2014) at the Field Studies Centre located in Amersham Woods. On the first day they spent time learning and practicing the techniques required to collect precise, statistically significant ecological data. Our students learnt how to measure variables such as light intensity and soil pH as well as the best ways of sampling their chosen organism. The second day involved carrying out a pilot study on their chosen area of research. Our students did well to persevere in the rain!

Information collected from their pilot study allowed them to refine their techniques to collect the best possible final set of data on the third day. Students now spend several weeks writing up their projects which are send off the exam board in April for final assessment by the examiners. Our students worked extremely well over the three days, and judging by the excellent data they managed to collect, bode well for some top results in this demanding module of the A-Level course.
