China trip: Practice walks 2 and 3

26 Jun 2017

The countdown for the China trip is now ticking at less than a week! On Saturday our first overseas expedition group will depart from the College to Beijing, and excitement continues to grow. Over the last few weeks, the group have managed to successfully deal with two more practice walks, both testing the distance capabilities of the students, and factoring in some hill climbing to compliment endurance.

In our first walk, we followed a branch of the Grand Union Canal from Ealing round Hayes towards Northolt, coming out at the man-made hills of Northala fields. From here, we were able to take in some nice views of West London, topped off with an ice cream from Mr Whippy himself. After making our way back to the College, we had covered an impressive 12 and a half miles.

The second walk followed the Capital Ring, passing through Hanwell and then Perivale before leading the group towards a climb of Horsenden Hill, which again provided some picturesque views of the surroundings. A slightly shorter walk in order to ensure students were well rested for the challenges to come, this still tested the ability of students in hot weather.

Keep your eye on the blog for further updates from what promises to be the adventure of a lifetime.
