Scholarship Competition: Roland's Interview

Scholarship Competition

Scholarships play a crucial role in providing financial support to gifted and ambitious students who may not otherwise be able to attend college. Our scholarship aims to remove the barriers that often prevent talented individuals from pursuing private education.

Our Scholarship Competition is an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their academic abilities and win a fully funded place or financial support for their education. The competition involves a test created by the Principal which is aimed at identifying potential across a range of subjects.

We had a chance to catch up with Roland, our current Scholarship winner to discuss his experience of the college so far.

Introduce yourself.

“Hello, my name is Roland and I attend Ealing Independent College which I joined after my GCSE's. I'm in my first year of A levels. I would say I am extremely outgoing and not scared to face a challenge.”

Roland is studying Maths, Physics and Geography and is keen to pursue a career in Engineering, with aspirations to study at Imperial College London. He became aware of the College through becoming a private candidate here for his GCSE's last year.

What has been your experience of Ealing Independent College so far?

“Meeting my teachers and classmates and seeing how much everyone cares about how well you are doing in school and always having time for you to help you improve.”

Throughout education, students often encounter various challenges that can impact their overall learning experience. These challenges can manifest in various forms, ranging from academic difficulties to personal struggles. We understand that addressing these challenges is crucial for providing a supportive and conducive learning environment for students. Our teachers pride themselves on teaching the individual and providing a personalised approach to each student.

What made you want to apply for our scholarship competition?

“I wanted an opportunity to go to an Independent school near me and the scholarship competition seemed to be the best option.”

The college has been offering scholarships since 2019. By offering scholarships, the college encourages students of all backgrounds to pursue their education goals.

Scholarships can empower students to make the most of their college experience by allowing them to engage in extracurricular activities, and network with peers and professionals in their field of interest. These opportunities not only contribute to their academic growth but also foster leadership skills, teamwork and personal growth.

Can you describe your experience of the scholarship competition?

“It was extremely quick and easy with my parents filling out a form online. I then came into the school a few weeks later and sat a quick test no longer than 45 minutes. We then waited another couple weeks and we got a response informing my parents and myself that I won.”

What are you most excited for this year?

“Seeing how I can improve from the beginning and being able to look back and see how much progress I have made.”

Roland's teachers say that his enthusiasm is infectious. He engages actively in class discussions asking insightful questions, contributing valuable perspectives and ideas that make the learning experience interesting for everyone.

How do you spend your free time?

“Often going out with friends or relaxing at home, either playing online or doing some extra work.”

Finally - Tell us a fun fact about yourself!

“I am planning to become an Aeronautical Engineer after University, however I do plan to be doing a multitude of other businesses along the way.”

Apply for our Scholarship Competition here to win a fully funded place at the college starting in September 2024.

Applications close on the 19th of January. Applicants must be available to attend the college on Tuesday the 23rd of January for assessment.
