As part of UK Parliament Week 2018, Ealing Independent College was delighted to host Dr Rupa Huq, MP for Ealing Central and Acton speaking to A-Level students on Friday about her role as an Member of Parliament and recent political events. Students had the opportunity to ask a range of questions that covered important debates on Brexit, the involvement of young people in politics, knife crime in London, and her journey from being a Sociology lecturer to fighting and winning a highly contested seat in Parliament. Selyan in Year 12 even had the opportunity to converse with Dr. Huq in French. This was great opportunity for students to become more engaged in the role of democracy in the UK and current political issues. UK Parliament Week is highly significant this year as it ties in with the 100th anniversary of the first women being given the right to vote.
