EIC Charity: Africa on the Ball

EIC Charity: Africa on the Ball

One of our Year 10 students, Osman, has voluntarily taken on the important role of PSHE ambassador for the College. As part of this role, he has launched a charity initiative to support the charity ‘Africa on the Ball.’ Osman studied in Somalia for one year last year before following the virtual admissions process with us over the summer. After isolating on his return to the UK and then joining us in the College officially late in September he has been a fantastic addition to the year group.

Osman is looking to study Law in the future and became an ambassador to help him strengthen his opportunities to pursue his dream career path in the future. What’s more, having studied in Somalia last year, Osman himself has witnessed the lack of opportunities available in certain areas first hand. Based on his own experience he felt that it is clear that young children did not have the resources that they needed. Osman also emphasised the importance of sport both physically and mentally for children his age, wherever they are growing up.

It is for this reason that Osman wanted to support an initiative for young children who do not have sporting resources. He has been working with our Principal to start an online competition that also focuses on predicting Premier League scores. Those students who sign up, and pay a donation, are then able to enter a league where the most accurate predictor is eligible for a prize. You can read more about ‘Africa on the Ball’ and their mission here

In the long run, Osman is hoping to team up with our local football team, Brentford FC to work on more prizes that we can provide those who are regularly involved in this charity initiative and who make the most accurate football predictions.

All that is left now is for our students to get donating! (and watching the Premier League, which does not seem an unreasonable request for many of our students).
