Week of mixed fortunes in run up to exams

Ealing Independent College 2 - 1 Albemarle College

Ealing did just enough to come out on top against Albemarle in a feisty game at the Linford Christie Sports Centre on Wednesday. The unfamiliar surface and surroundings resulted in a slow start by both sides. Chances were few and far between in the opening minutes, but Ealing, despite never really getting out of second gear, were bossing possession and had the lion’s share of chances. Abdi’s speculative effort hit the bar, while Albemarle’s stand in coach/keeper made a decent stop with his feet. It was in strange circumstances that Ealing took the lead. Davies’ deflected shot creeping in at the near post. Abdi soon doubled the advantage with a low drive. At this point, Ealing really should have kicked on in the second half. Sluggish play though, with poor passing and some careless finishing did not kill off the game. The closest they came to doing this was an Al-Mafrachi free kick which struck the post. An Albemarle striker burst past Yusuf to finish emphatically and suddenly Ealing were holding on. The side did not take care of the basics of passing and movement which had served them so well earlier in the season, allowing their opponents to mount some late pressure. Tempers frayed as the game reached it’s conclusion, with some niggly fouls and even more niggly insults traded between the sides. There is certainly no love lost between these rivals.
