The Ealing Student Art Competition 2017

20 Mar 2017

On Thursday 16 March 2017, Ealing Independent College hosted the art exhibition and award ceremony for the Ealing Student Art Competition. The competition, run by Ealing Independent College was targeted at secondary school students from Ealing and west London. The prize-giving ceremony celebrated all the work that was submitted and had a number of students and families in attendance.

A large number of submissions were from students at Twyford Church of England High School with the other participating schools being The Fulham Boys School and our very own, Ealing Independent College. The Principal of the College, Dr Ian Moores was delighted to run the competition as he is an avid art enthusiast himself. He delivered a very informative and engaging speech during the event and even had part of his own pre-raphaelite personal art collection on display for the young artists to admire.

A gallery of 15 pieces were displayed and 4 prizes were awarded. The judges, Dr Ian Moores and the College’s art teacher Dimitrios Oikonomou were impressed with the quality of all the entries, however they unanimously agreed on one winner and 2 runner-ups. A 3rdrunner-up was decided on the night by Dr Moores too. The runner-ups were:

  • Phillippe Andreewich, 13 years old from The Fulham Boys School
  • Leila Ingram-Smith, 14 years old from The Twyford Church of England High School and
  • Andy Lin, 14 years old from The Twyford Church of England High School.

The winner of the competition was Hermione Marszalek, also 14 years old from The Twyford Church of England High School. Her intricate drawing of a church stood out as a piece that had been given incredible attention to detail, focus and skill.

We were pleased to have received so many entries from such young and talented local students and we hope they felt uplifted and encouraged to continue drawing and painting. The Ealing Student Art Competition was a wonderful success and we hope to run it again next year.

"I was very excited to run the Ealing Student Art Competition as I am an avid art enthusiast myself", said Dr Moores. "We were pleased to have received so many entries from such young and talented students in west London. I was delighted with the turnout at the event and was incredibly impressed with the quality of each piece."

The Ealing Student Art Competition was a wonderful success; we hope all participants felt uplifted and encouraged to continue drawing and painting. We will certainly repeat the event next year.
