Over the last few months some of our students have been taking part in the University of Southampton National Cipher Challenge 2015. The Challenge consists of eight parts with two challenges at each stage. The ciphers have varied from simple substitution ciphers, to Vigenère , and even an AMSCO cipher. The final challenge 8B involved decrypting a Solitaire cipher with an incomplete key - a very challenging puzzle. Of the 3500 students who entered nationally, less than 500 were still competing at the start of challenge 7, and fewer still completed challenge 8.

Three students have made it to the final stage - Tri, Mohamed and Adil. Tri and Mohammed have both successfully completed the final challenge.

Throughout the challenge prizes have also been awarded for speed and accuracy. Adil won a prize for his entry to challenge 7A and Mohammed has won a similar prize for his entry to 8A. This is an incredibly achievement given the difficulty of the puzzles.
