Political Aspirations

16 Oct 2015

Some of you may be aware that one of our very own students, Abdulaziz Kilani, is Chief Press Officer for Harrow Youth Parliament, which is part of the UK Youth Parliament. On 13th November the UK Youth Parliament sat in the House of Commons to debate issues that have been decided by young people across the country.

These were decided through the Make Your Mark ballot where secondary school pupils choose between a range of options they thought were the most important issues facing young people to be debated. Over 920,000 secondary school pupils cast a vote.

The results have been tallied and were as follows:

EIC

Living Wage
Public Transport
Tackling Racism and Religious Discrimination
Mental Health
Extended SEN support

Rest of the UK

Living Wage
A Curriculum for Life
Mental Health
Public Transport
Tackling Racism and Religious Discrimination

Abdulaziz is also a member of the Labour Party, Youth Officer for Harrow East Labour Party and Harrow Young Labour Secretary. He has met a number of prominent politicians through this work and he carries his passion into the classroom.

He said: "This is my second year at Ealing Independent College (EIC) where I'm doing my A Levels. My favourite subject is Government and Politics (probably because I'm that passionate about politics!). What makes EIC different than any other college is that you learn that education and studying is more than just passing exams. At EIC, I have been given the full help and support I needed. I would recommend this college to anyone who is looking towards the best grades in their studies."
