Enjoyable English

23 Sep 2015

Fleur Lloyd our experienced Head of English has put together a lively programme of extra-curricular sessions which are open to all – staff and students. She has successfully run courses for adult learners at Marlborough Summer School and has adapted them in order to make them enjoyable as well as enlightening.

Shakespeare for All

Will be an interactive workshop, where Fleur will take themes such as love, villainy, power and the role of women and look at particular speeches, unpack the language, update the settings and sit back while the students enact them taking out the fear to instil an appreciation for the greatest poet and playwright of all time.

Creative Writing

All you need to attend any of these sessions is the means to write; pencil and paper and laptops are equally valued. With the advent of the mobile phone and the spread of text-speak, students are becoming more and more inadequate in the area of self-expression, particularly the written word. This course will be run on a drop-in basis as each week we will announce the topic and exercise to give students the optimum choice. We will encourage students to have fun with writing short stories, sketches, reviews, autobiography, biography, poetry, drama, journalism, travelogues and diary writing. It will improve their confidence and give them a portfolio which they will enjoy sharing with family and friends.
