EIC visits MIT

28 Feb 2019

Students form Ealing Independent College had the pleasure of attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Model United Nations Conference (MITMUNC XI) in Boston last week. The students were each assigned a country that they would represent at the conference. They were asked to prepare and formulate feasible solutions to difficult controversies in the global world, such as human trafficking, climate change, nuclear disarmament and more.

As the only school representing the UK, the students felt like they had to get their voices heard – and they did! The committee sessions took place over three days, and the conference itself had talks led by Karen Dynan, Professor of the Practice in the Harvard University Department of Economics, and Richard B. Freeman, the Herbert Ascherman Chair in Economics at Harvard University.

The students also managed to fit in quite a lot of sightseeing too. On the first day they completed the well-known Freedom Trail, which included a unique collection of museums, churches, meeting houses, burying grounds, parks and historic markers that tell the story of the American Revolution. They also visited the beautiful Boston Public Library and Fenway Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox.

On their final day, they paid a visit to the world-renowned Harvard University. Harvard is the United States' oldest institution of higher learning; its history, influence, and wealth have made it one of the world's most prestigious universities. After visiting the beautiful campus and Harvard's Natural History Museum, the students were keen to come back and study there in the future.
