At the Westway Sports Centre last night, a keenly fought, pulsating encounter ended in victory for Ealing in their first game of the 2014/2015 season. A fast start saw the side race into a two goal lead thanks to a cool finish by Zak Abdi and strong forward play by Evan Davies. A golden opportunity to extend the lead was passed up by Abdi who smashed a wayward penalty high and wide. This offered David Game encouragement to come forward and try to get back into the game, encouragement furthered by an injury to Liban Yusuf whose ankle sprain ensured his game ended there and then. He was replaced by Glenn Ndjoli, who gave an industrious display in defence. The injuries did not end there – Ryan Chabane pulled a muscle which limited his mobility but due to a lack of subs, he continued to unselfishly chase down the ball across the David Game defence.

The initiative was now completely with David Game College though and they made several chances, kept out by the solid defensive play and timely tackles of Krystian Bik and Faris Gadoura or numerous excellent stops by goalkeeper Azim Raja. The hard working Hamza Al-Taie in midfield did his best to hold back the David Game tide but after pulling back to 2-1, the Ealing goal led a charmed life. David Game strikers hit the bar twice and could not turn their superior possession or territorial advantage into goals. Composure was lost somewhat as the game got closer to its conclusion and there will need to be some work done on the training pitch on fitness and ball retention. When the referee blew the final whistle, a collective sigh of relief amongst the team was very much evident but the boys were overjoyed with the result. Quite an achievement, considering they were only made aware of the game at break time!
