On Monday 30 November we were lucky enough to have Christian Wolmar visit the College to speak with students from our Politics and Economics Society.
Phil Brack, our Head of Social Science, is running the society for any students with an interest in Politics or Economics and this is the first of a series of planned Speaker Events. This was especially insightful for students on our Government and Politics A Level programme.
Christian Wolmar is an internationally renowned expert of the economics of the railways and transport and sought to be the Labour Party's candidate for London Mayor, and was happy to take the time to pass his insight onto our students.
Abdulaziz, who is studying Government and Politics AS Level, said “It was a pleasure to welcome Christian Wolmar to the college. He is one of those experts who we should learn from as he is a knowledgeable man. The discussion with him went very well. We really enjoyed it. Personally, I would be in favour of holding more of these discussions as I believe that they benefit the students."
Phil Brack, Head of Social Sciences, commented that "The students enjoyed the insights Christian had on the role of transport in London and elsewhere, and how he sought to influence the mayoral debate through his candidacy in the Labour selection process. Christian has had a fascinating life that will hopefully inspire students. We look forward to inviting similarly fascinating speakers in the future."
We are currently in the process of inviting speakers from a range of backgrounds in politics and economics, so keep an eye out for upcoming talks.
