AS/GCSE Team Serve up Pre-Halloween Horror Show

30 Oct 2015

EIC FC AS/GCSE 1-5 Collingham College

League match - 29th October 2015

Team: Daniel (Enver), Subhan (Hasan), Suleyman, Jonathan, Acil, Sultan, Kai, Georges

Goal scorer: Hasan

Man of the match: Hasan for a well taken goal and some strong tackles. Could do with cutting out the flicks and tricks though!

Following a few harsh lessons on their debut league match, the Ealing side will be pondering what might have been. What if the team all turned up on time for the 6pm kick off? What if they managed to communicate with each other? What if Kai's first minute shot hit the back of the net rather than the post? All are important questions, but all answered with negatives in what was a disjointed display from the new side. They lacked coherence and leadership and they will need to make a vast improvement in time for their next match against David Game College on Thursday.

Having made some dangerous early attacks, the reds found themselves a goal down. Poor distribution from the back was the cause, and it came back to haunt them twice more in a poor first half. The players were told at half time to do the simple things correctly and support each other as a team. Above all else they were commanded not to let their heads drop, and it seemed to make a difference. Some positive play saw Georges make some space for shots, only to be quickly charged down. Acil, Sultan and Kai were busy in midfield but couldn’t make any crucially incisive passes to produce a golden chance which the side required to get back in the game.

At this point, Collingham again pounced on an error when Ealing were caught in possession, resulting in a scrappy fourth goal. They followed it with a quickfire fifth – again keeping possession was not good enough from the reds. Between the goals, Hasan was introduced for Subhan, which gave much needed power in midfield. His fight and desire after coming on was rewarded with a breakaway goal, which he took very well, bounding forward and unleashing a well-placed right foot shot beyond the Collingham keeper. It was, however, just a consolation. Georges had another fleeting chance to get a shot off, but Collingham, in truth, defended well until the end to take a deserved victory.

So not a great start for the new side, but they have an opportunity to respond quickly which is all they could have asked for. There should be no excuses this time from the team for poor organisation, lack of communication or teamwork. Whether they can make the needed huge improvement in such a short space of time is another matter entirely.
