5 star Ealing turn on the style to smash Albemarle

Ealing Independent College 5-1 Albemarle College

Ealing notched their first win of the league campaign last night with a tremendous display of high intensity, high tempo football which Albemarle College simply could not cope with. With Friday’s training session which concentrated on passing and ball retention fresh in the mind and a determined pre-match team talk focussing on leaving nothing on the pitch, Ealing bossed possession in the first half. Stray passes were a rarity and the whites coupled this approach with a faultless work-rate, which pressured the opposition into giving up possession. Pressure built as the half wore on, and Ealing capitalised when midfield lynchpin Krystian Bik marched forward to smash a long range piledriver beyond the Albemarle keeper. Celebrations were quickly put to one side as coach Allan Cairns roared at his charges to maintain their intensity. His pleas were answered when Bik again emerged from deep to drive a well-placed shot beyond the Albemarle stopper only five minutes later. The referee blew for half time with Ealing enjoying a two-goal lead. The players were in dire need of refreshment after their first period exertions. Defence looked secure with Gadoura and Yagoub making interventions where required and the hard working midfield of Bik, Abdi, Siu and Al-Taie were subduing their Albemarle counterparts. Though not in the goals this week, forward Evan Davies was harrying and chasing down even the most lost of causes. The match continued in the same vein as the second half started, though the high tempo of the first could not quite be matched. Changes had to be made, with Killimbe replacing Davies, and Olsson coming on for Al-Taie to offer more security in the middle of the park. The changes brought a momentary lapse in concentration and a long range Albemarle strike made its way past the unsighted Raja. For a moment, it seemed that all of Ealing’s hard work would be undone and that they might revert to bad habits of giving up possession as well as the lead. However, it was not to be. With ten minutes remaining, Abdi was able to find enough space to crash a well-guided shot into the bottom right corner of the net. Ealing had learned their lesson this time, and when Olsson broke up an Albemarle attack, he passed it out left to Abdi, who glided past two defenders before planting a powerful shot into the net. A jubilant Liban Yusuf could barely contain himself on the sidelines. At this point, Al Ahmad replaced the hobbling Bik, who had given a towering performance before a groin complaint forced him off. It was Abdi however who was the man of the moment and his tenacious and disciplined display in the first half was now reaping rewards. To rub salt into the Albemarle wounds, a well-worked corner with Killimbe, saw the pair exchange passes before Abdi found sufficient space to smash an unstoppable near post shot beyond the keeper as the final whistle blew. The scoreline may have slightly flattered Ealing at the end, but in truth, it was no more than their hard work had deserved. The players should take a great deal of pleasure and confidence from what was almost a complete performance. Man of the Match: 1) Abdi – tremendous hat-trick. 2) Bik – superb defensively and two goals. 3) Siu – another great effort.
